The dates given below reflect our understanding of the timelines for fitting out our new home in Lower Allston as of March 25, 2021. 

Uncertainty is an unfortunate reality of construction at this early stage, only exacerbated by Covid. It's our goal to be as prompt and transparent as possible in providing updates should the schedules change.

As we progress, we will gain more insight into the construction schedules, and will update these FAQs as more questions arise and better information becomes available. 

High Level FAQs

Where is Artisan’s moving to?

We’re moving to 55 Antwerp and 96 Holton Streets, colloquially referred to as “Lower Allston,” although our location has a Brighton ZIP code, 02135.

How can I get to Lower Allston?

There are a few ways to get there, including bicycle lanes, pedestrian friendly walk routes, and public transit. Public transportation includes the Commuter Rail to Boston Landing and the 86, 70, 66 and 57 bus routes. To learn more about your options, visit Walk Score. We’ll also have plenty of parking.

Is the new space larger?

Yes. Artisan’s will grow by about 10,000 SF (25 percent), from 42,000 SF at 10 Tyler Street to a combined 52,500 SF in Lower Allston - 28,000 SF at 55 Antwerp and 22,500 SF at 96 Holton.

If the new space is larger, will there be more studios?

Not necessarily. Artisan’s has dedicated about 90 percent of the growth to shops. We have increased the availability of studio space by 1,000 SF. Depending on how studio preferences break out by size, we could have more studios; but we could also have fewer. 

When will we move?

The short answer is that we will cease shop operations at 10 Tyler on August 30, 2021. We are planning to commence full operations in Lower Allston January 3, 2022. Along the way, we plan to bring 55 Antwerp online for members in December 2021, and Holton Street in January 2022. See the FAQ below for more detail.

How can I support the move effort?

There are at least two ways to support the Asylum through this move effort: join one of our work groups; you can also make a donation at our crowdfunding campaign page. Later we’ll be asking members to contribute as volunteers to our packing, move and build-out efforts.

What's the last date I can use the shops in Building 13?

  • Machine Shop: August 2
  • Prop Shop: April 1
    • Laser Cutter will still be operational until August 30
  • Fiber Arts Shop: June 1

What's the last date I can use the shops in Building 11?

  • MultiCam: August 30
  • Plasma Cutter: August 2
  • Shop Bot: August 16
  • Wood Shop: August 30
  • Metal Shop: August 30

What's the last date I can use the shops in Building 10?

When does my shelf / rack storage / sheet storage space in Building 11 need to be empty?

By August 16

When does my shelf in Building 13 need to be empty?

By August  1

When does my pallet space need to be empty? 

If you are moving your things to Allston, you will need to be completely packed one week before your move zone date.

  • Earliest member move zone date is September 13
  • Final member Move zone date is October 11

If you are not moving your things to Allston, the pallet space should be cleared by August 1

When should I have my chemicals out of the storage cabinets?



By July 1

When does my studio need to be empty?

If you are moving your things to Allston, you should plan to be completely packed one week before your move zone date.

  • Earliest member move zone date is September 13
  • Final member Move zone date is October 11

If you are not moving to Allston, your studio should be vacated by August 1

What's the first date I can use my studio in 55 Antwerp?

  • Studio move-ins begin September 13
  • Member goods will stay in storage until November 1 while any remaining fit-up, studio partition construction and other facility construction is completed 
  • Members may begin unpacking and setting up their studios during the month of November. Shops may be used for studio structures and facility work only
  • December 1 is target for regular studio and shop  use

What's the first date I can use my studio in 96 Holton?

  • Studio move-ins begin September 27
  • Member goods will stay in storage until December 1 while any remaining fit-up, studio partition construction and other facility construction is completed 
  • Members may begin unpacking and setting up their studios during the month of December. Shops may be used for studio structures and facility work only
  • January 1 is target for regular studio and shop use

What's the first date I can use the shops in 55 Antwerp?

  • November 1 for studio construction
  • December 1 for normal use

What's the first date I can use the shops in 96 Holton?

  • December 1 for studio construction
  • January 1 for normal use
